News: How To Wash Your human hair Wig

Let's discuss how to maintain your human hair wig, particularly the washing process. I completely understand the apprehension that comes with washing your wig for the first time, but believe me, it's quite simple (just remember to be gentle).

In this post, I will focus on washing human hair wigs, as washing synthetic wigs is a bit different and will be addressed in a future post or video. If you have a local wig shop, you can drop off your wig for a wash and style, similar to dry cleaning. Just keep in mind that you may need to part with your wig for a day or two, but the convenience of picking up a freshly cleaned and styled wig is worth it.

However, if you're like me and prefer not to be without your hair wig for any time, knowing how to wash it properly is essential. There are various opinions on the "correct" way to wash a wig, and I will share my personal method that has kept my wigs looking brand new. Feel free to adapt this process to suit your needs.

Before we dive into the washing process, let's discuss how often a hair wig should be washed. My general guideline is to wash it at least every four weeks, but I usually aim for six weeks, and if I can extend it, even better. Several factors can influence how often you should wash your wig, such as how frequently you wear it, whether you rotate between wigs, and the activities you engage in while wearing it. Depending on your answers, you might find yourself washing every four weeks or possibly stretching it to eight weeks. Ultimately, the less you do to your hair wig (like washing or heat styling), the better it will fare.

Now, let's talk about the products you'll need. I promise we'll get to the washing part soon! There isn't a specific shampoo brand you must use, but there are a few key things to consider when selecting your products:
- Opt for high-quality shampoo and conditioner (you don't need to buy the most expensive options, but choose something of good quality).
- Look for hydrating products, as wigs can become dry, and moisturizing options will help combat that.
- Choose color-safe products. Most wigs are made from color-treated hair, and even if you have a virgin hair wig, color-safe products are generally gentler.
- Lastly, select products that are free from harsh chemicals.

Regardless of the shampoo and conditioner you choose, a regular-sized bottle should last you a year if you're washing once a month at most.

Now that we've covered all that, let's get to the washing! I believe it's easier to understand when you see it in action rather than just reading the steps, so I've included a video demonstrating how I wash my wig. But before we wrap up, I want to emphasize two important points:
- Be gentle! This is especially crucial if you have a lace top or lace front. Handle the lace delicately and avoid scrubbing!
- And remember, you're amazing! (Just in case you needed a little reminder).
